Today we face Dumbarton in another important game (they’re all important at the moment) in our pursuit of at least a playoff place this season. It’s only 4 days since our strong performance versus Morton and Dumbarton’s form has not been great recently – that said away games are always tricky.
We had U18 & Ressie games between times – The U18’s winning 2-0 at Newtongrange Star Res (goals from Sean McIntosh & Cameron McGinn), the Ressies losing 2-0 at Kilmarnock Res.
League 1 Team of the Week honours for Dunsmore & Slaven.
Some odd results on Tuesday night, the upshot being we can go into 2nd, 2 points behind Albion Rovers with a win tonight – Forfar tanking Airdrie is particularly odd.
And so we wend our merry way 120 miles across the breadth of central Scotland to face Dumbarton. They currently sit in 7th, but are just 2 points behind us, such is this division this season. They have a couple of players that may force their way into our team on CA, but they are midfielders, where we are really strong also.
The Eurofighter stays, with Martin as an AP at Number 10, Davidson back as a Mezzala on the right of the central midfield 3, Dunsmore as a WB(D) so they don’t get in each other’s way. Dumbarton are going 4-4-1-1, hoping the more-defensive nature of play on their side isn’t too stifling.
HT Dumbarton 0 Berwick 0
It’s a rainy evening and an even start to proceedings. Berwick starting to get the better of it with a few good moves, though they are staying quite deep. Also I’ve just seen the most audaciuous slide tackle ever – I think Davidson slid 10 yards or so 🙂 🙂 🙂 Dumbarton looking a bit stronger getting near to the half hour, maybe playing their way into the game a bit, Sinclair making a string of fine saves. A good battle, 0-0 at Half Time.
FT Dumbarton 0 Berwick 0 Att 775 (101 Away)
A few tweaks at half time, roles & width, plus work ball into the box rather than early crosses. Dumbarton definitely with more of the ball at the start of the half as the rain pours down. Leitch on for McManus as a Carillero, Davidson up to AM as we go 3-4-2-1 Balanced, trying to mix it up a bit. A bit better, and a good chance in the 73rd, a long bomb by Martin finding Slaven, whose shot was saved well. Mitchell on for the last 20. Dempsie on for Mackie for the last 10. I definitely take a draw at the moment. Last few minutes, getting the long balls up to Mitchell as quick as we can. But its all over – a decent 0-0 draw.
And with that we go 2nd, just 3 points above 8th!!! 9 games unbeaten in the league now (W4 D5).
Next up in just 3 days is Alloa away, our first game of an October that only has 3 matches in total (2 week breaks between them) so plenty of good time to train. See you soon.
