Happy New Year 🙂 December 2020 was a superb one, and we will take a look at the stats, but firstly a few bits and pieces that happened just before New Year.
Our U18’s beat Musselburgh Athletic Res 5-1 in a friendly – Goals from Archie Gardiner, 18 yo AMR Jamie Johnson, 18yo STC Paul McCarthy and a brace from 18yo STC Duncan Johnson.
Our Reserves beat Queen of the South Reserves 3-2 in the Reserve League – Cameron McGinn & Liam Watt with a brace. We currently sit 3rd with 5 games left.
Just four lads in the League 2 Team of the Week – Dominant wingbacks Faulds & Dunsmore, Seany-Boy & one of the best players in the league Harry Nicolson.
And just under £25k into the pot for our relationship with Dundee.
Stats – Some good attribute rises last month:
The usual suspects all progressing really well.
Some really good stats as well, standouts are Sean Slaven – 16 Key Headers & just below 70% header completion for a striker is mad, as is his 7 goals in 4 games & Andy Turner with his 91.8% pass completion stat.
And of course Sean takes Player of the Month for League 2 by a distance, and also Young-Player of the Month.
Manager of the Month – Don’t mind if I do 🙂
We are also dabbling in the transfer market, offering new 2-year contracts to our best guys and maybe extending some loans… Watch this space.
Today we play Annan Athletic, whose Manager, Peter Murphy, has the best opinion of me in the game (Must have plied him with some Lagavulin after a game once).
Back to the more solid 4-3-3. The team picks itself, but like Liverpool we are due a bad day at the office at some point. I hope this team has enough about it top score one more goal than the opposition. Annan go with a 4-4-2 – Their entire back 4 are newgens…
HT Annan 0 Berwick 1 (Slaven 41)
Berwick kick off in the January rain in their White strip this afternoon, and took the game straight to the opponents. In the 11th minute balde pulled up with atight calf, I’ll try and get him through to half time. But he only lasted another 15 minutes – Tom Sutherland on as an AP out wide. The breakthrough took until the 41st minute. Big Rod Wimbledon-ing a ball to Slaven, who ran on an slammed it home. 1-0 Berwick. And that’s how the half finished – not a brilliant game so far but we deserve the lead. Going 4-1-2-3 for the second half, Turner to DM, Cornelius to CM(A), which he likes best.
FT Annan 1 (Gallacher 73) Berwick 2 (Slaven 41, Barr 62) Att 573 (142 Away)
Annan came out of the traps well, but with just long shots Berwick weren’t troubled. Healy on for McLaughlin in the 60th minute. And almost straight away Lewis Barr bends a Free Kick straight in from the left-corner of the area, top left of the goal. 2-0 Berwick, and Lewis’ 4th goal of the season. 71st minute, Archie Gardiner on for Cornelius. Annan pulled one back in the 73rd minute, lovely interplay and a Gallacher goal from the edge of the area. Definitely feeling quite tight in the last 10, Annan showing their form (2nd only after us in the last 5 games). Injury time and Annan were very attacking, but the boys defended well and saw the game out. 2-1, a very nice win away from home on a cold, wet January day on 4G.
A brilliant afternoon for Berwick again, 2nd & 3rd both losing, we are now 4 games clear with 16 games left. Also John Balde is only out for a couple of days with his tight calf.
Next up we entertain an East Fife side that sit 5th and have only lost once in the last 5 games. We will be going for our 8th league win in a row. See you soon.
