Part 85 – OS2 C2 S1 P2 Match Day 1 (SMD 20) Elgin City (A) 4th Jan 2020 15:00

Lewis Barr – Best Non-Regen by current ability at the club

We will be needing Lewis to be putting shifts in game-in game-out – Hoping the freedom of the Mezzala role will give him the opportunity to get into some good positions.

So, Elgin City. We know about them from our 2 games against them in the Scottish Cup a few in-game months ago with Civil Service. We really should have beaten them at home, so I’m hoping with Berwick we should be able to give them a good game. I’m scouting Civil Service just to see where we fall ability-wise as that will definitely inform my dealings this month.

Playing to our limitations. Jordan Orru will need to suck-it-up with his 85% condition. Elgin go 4-2-3-1 as they did versus Civil Service. Lets give this a go.

First Half Comprehensive Highlights

HT Elgin City 2 (Macadie 21, 32) Berwick Rangers 0

Time to get used to the Yellow & Black! A decent start, Barr hitting the Bar(!) in the 15th minute. Then a free kick, you know, one of those where the back line doesn’t move and the keeper saves it, just to have 4 opponents around the ball – yeah, that one. MacAdie making it 1-0 Elgin. And in the 32nd minute a Macadie 20 yards scorched past our keeper to make it 2-0. Seems pretty unfair as its been a tight enough game so far, with the Elgin keeper being the difference. 2-0 at Half Time. Switching to 4-3-3 extremely wide with Inside Forwards.

Second Half Comprehensive Highlights

FT Elgin City 2 (Macadie 21, 32) Berwick Rangers 0 Att 653 (47 Away)

A bright start to the half, though its clear we need 2 up top. Craig Reid on for Scullion, and a bit of a rework to go 4-4-2 Diamond Narrow. And we could have played all day and not scored, the Elgin Keeper McGowan (7.3) pulled off some world-class saves (2 Saves Held, 1 Save Parried, 2 Saves Tipped). 2-0 it finished, quite positive but we need firepower up top.

5 points separate the bottom 5, 16 the top 5 so we are split very much down the middle. I will concentrate on beating the guys in the bottom 5 – do that and we will be safe. Next up next Saturday is Stenhousemuir (5th), I hope to at least have some more staff by then! (Currently only have AM, 1 Coach, 1 Scout, 1 Physio!!). See you soon.
