Part 72 – S2 C1 P18 Match Day 11 – Edusport/Caledonian Braves (H) 2nd Nov 2019 15:00

The New French Foreign Legion

We play Edusport today in a crunch league game, and as I’d been seeing a lot of French names coming up in relation to them I thought I#d take a look. And lo and behold – 6 french kids, all born in France, all started their careers with Edusport. Edusport don’t have an affiliate……..All a bit weird but they seem to be very good for their age as regens at this level.

Our Ressies played out a 1-1 draw v Lochar Thistle on the day after the Gala smash-and-grab – Blair Deakin, a 19 yo triallist whose last club was Peterhead with the goal.

We’ve also had another month-end – here are the headline stats from what has been a good month result-wise.

Not many changes in attributes this month – Aiden Gibb’s jumping reach is up and he has gained 2cm height in the last 2 months so he’s undergoing a bit of a late growth-spurt. jamie Innes has also put some weight on – 2kg in the last month (Up to 62kg)

A better month result-wise has been born out in the stats. Passing is up at the top end, with both 17 yo Scott Mackay and Paul Cairney increasing their completion numbers – Also Scott with almost 3.3 Key Passes a game is very promising and as such he’ll start getting more game-time. Aiden Gibb stands out on the heading – 92.9% completion and 5 key headers out of 14 attempts show the importance of wing-backs who are useful in the air.Mark Burbidge & Andy Mair both completed 25% or more of their cross attempts – With Regan Lumsden up front these numbers will be a bit higher than the normal as he’s connecting with these crosses. Out back 3 are intercepting well – almost 9 interceptions a game between them. An interesting month stats-wise.

And lastly before we get to the game our Reserves lost 4-0 to Albion Rovers Res.

We stay with the 3-5-2/5-2-1-2 – Docherty starts up top in place of Glasgow, Scott Mackay for Cairney, Balfour for McVitie and we go with 2 Carilleros in Centre Mid – if this doesn’t work McVitie is on the bench, but I really want to have our 1st and 3rd best players playing if at all possible. Gibb starts in place of Burbidge, who may well play a big part later on in the game. Edusport start with a 4-4-2.

First Half Comprehensive Highlights

HT Civil Service 0 Edusport 0

Surprisingly its raining in Edinburgh, but 14C in November is not to be sniffed at.!! A bright start to the game however. A nice amount of possession with the midfield 3 working together well. Edusport defended well though, we struggled getting chances. And the half finished 0-0 – Edusport showed very little attacking threat but we need to break them down. Changes are afoot, maybe at 55 mins or so if we don’t get an early breakthrough. Only 3 goals so far in the 8 league games today!!!!

Second Half Comprehensive Highlights

FT Civil Service 1 (Burbidge 82) Edusport 0 Att 111 (15 Away)

Edusport started the half much brighter with a good chance for Bastien. Glasgow on for Docherty, Burbidge for Gibb. Cairney on for Mackay a few minutes later. Edusport really looked a lot better this half, but the breakthrough came to the Strollers. An beautiful 82nd minute cross from Mair found Burbidge unmarked at the back post, who headed home brilliantly to make it 1-0. Glasgow nearly made it 2 in injury time but the Edusport keeper saved well. 1-0 it finished, a superb result against a decent team. Really happy with how Balfour and MacEwan played together as well.

So we’re up to 2nd, 1 goal off of joint top Dalbeattie Star, though BSC, Edusport and Gala could all go above us if they win their games in hand. We’ve got ourselves back into a good position over the last 6 games (W4 D2). next up are bottom of the table Spartans in 7 days – what could possibly go wrong……………..Especially as we’ve just set the club games unbeaten record – now at 9!! See you then.
